birthday extravaganza!

Lassen Volcanic National Park

Directions to Park

Happy birthday, Chloe!

I'm super excited for your birthday backpacking adventure! I designed a route that takes you, Derick, Jared, and CC through some of the most secluded and spectacular parts of Lassen Volcanic NP. Click through each day on the left to explore your itinerary below!

Some things to consider:

⛰️ High altitude hiking. Lassen Volcanic NP sits at 10,457 feet so you might feel a slight headache or a loss of appetite as your body adjusts to the elevation. Be sure to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and try not to over exert yourself early on. Read more here.

❄️Wet crossings. Park rangers say the snowpack is melting fast so there might be some downed trees and stream crossings along your trek. Pack waterproof hiking boots, fast-drying, and hiking poles just in case.

🔥Campfires. They're only allowed in fire rings at developed campgrounds  (unfortunately not in the backcountry).

🌋Bumpass Hell, one of Lassen's most famous landmarks, remains closed to the public due to snow coverage. I'll still keep an eye on its reopening status, but I wouldn't count on dropping by.

😷Covid-19 safety. Visitor centers, ranger stations, restrooms, and other services remain closed. Be sure to pack out what you pack in (i.e. toilet paper, food wrappers) and remember to recreate responsibly. You're going to have an amazing time!

Happy camping 🏕️
